From cubicle to kitchen: 28% of co-workers plan to spend Thanksgiving together
Maybe you love your co-workers. Or maybe you just want to avoid the inevitable political fights conversations that are sure to take place around the family dinner table. Whatever the reason, if you're planning to spend Thanksgiving with your co-workers, you are part of a growing trend.
According to a new CareerBuilder survey, more than 1 in 4 workers (28 percent) say they plan to celebrate Thanksgiving with co-workers either in or out of the office this year – a substantial increase over 20 percent in 2015 and 19 percent in 2014.
Breaking it down by demographics
When it comes to major U.S. markets, workers in the Houston area (44 percent) are most likely to spend the holiday together, with Dallas (36 percent), Miami (35 percent), Atlanta (32 percent) and New York (27 percent) rounding out the top five.

The diverse group with the most employees planning to spend Thanksgiving together is Hispanic workers (35 percent), and 18-24 year olds (37 percent) are more likely to hang out on the holiday than any other age group.
Working up an appetite
Some co-workers may be spending time together on Thanksgiving, but it may not be by choice. Twenty-four percent of employees say they have to work on Thanksgiving (up from 22 percent last year), with leisure and hospitality workers leading the way.

At the end of the day, regardless of any family drama, most workers would rather be with their kin. When asked if they'd rather spend Thanksgiving Day with co-workers or family, 9 in 10 chose their family – on par with last year.
